Why Get Acupuncture? Turn on the sound to find out!

What do you want for yourself and for your life? Are small things- pain, sleeplessness, digestive issues keeping you from living life the way you want to?  Do you have a health problem that isn't a major disease and perhaps has been dismissed by your doctor as a part of aging that you'll just learn to live with? Acupuncture and Chinese medicine have been developing for more than 2,000 years as a way addresses those issues and maintain good health.  This holistic style of medicine is focused on maintaining your natural healthy state rather than reacting to illness, because doing so now, prevents bigger illness later.
I know you're wondering: Does acupuncture really work?  Yes! Acupuncture works by diminishing inflammation in the body, regulating the central nervous system, reducing stress, and improving circulation.  Applying these benefits to different areas of the body facilitates healing and promotes wellness.
Chinese medicine teaches us to analyze and study all aspects of a patient's life when helping him/her on the road to health.  You are the sum of all your experiences; acupuncture can help you chart your own unique path to health. I am an acupuncturist on the upper west side of NYC and I want to help you achieve your health goals.

ABOUT ME

Before pursuing Chinese medicine, I worked in the financial industry as well as non profit arts management. I’d been patient of acupuncture for over 20 years when one day lying on the table, I realized I wanted to share this gift with everyone.  This medicine helped me understand my body in a whole new way.  This lead me to study at the Pacific College of Health & Science, the largest school of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine in the country.

Because there is always more to learn and many masters to learn from, I continued to study orthopedic acupuncture techniques for chronic and acute pain with some of the top practitioners in the field; studied stroke rehabilitation techniques and am certified by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Oncology Acupuncture. I even advanced my practice of Japanese acupuncture at Meiji University of Integrative Medicine in Kyoto, Japan.

I have enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer my time for various organizations, notably  the Bumi Sehat Foundation International, a non-profit, village-based birthing and community health clinic in Bali, Indonesia, for staff of the Hospital for Joint Diseases, Lenox Hill Hospitals and runners in the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers event.

Because I get asked (often) what our education is like: I have has a Master of Science in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Health & Science, the largest school of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the US with campuses in New York, Chicago and San Diego. It was an intensive 5 year program of study combining both eastern and western medical coursework and included more than 3,000 hours of clinical experience seeing patients. I iboard certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and licensed in the state of New York.

I am excited to have opened a multi disciplinary health and wellness space on the upper west side of Manhattan where I run my practice specializing in acute and chronic pain conditions with a special interest in immune health, anxiety, Lyme disease and related conditions.

I know how busy and hectic life can get in New York. We need to be operating at optimal efficiency just to navigate around town while picking up groceries for dinner, the dry cleaning, fitting in a workout all while calculating whether to cross the park at 66th or 79th depending on the time of day.  I am excited to offer you a brief respite and powernap to recharge your batteries and melt away the pain.  It changed my life and I think it can change yours too.

REVIEWS & FEEDBACK

"Annalisa is the best! I went to her for a very specific physical ailment I had been dealing with, and she has been really thoughtful and collaborative in coming up with a treatment plan. I had little exposure to acupuncture prior to starting with her, and she set my mind at ease about the whole process. She even took the extra time to refer me to an herbalist colleague of hers who she thought could help as well.

Go see Annalisa...she's the cure for what ails you!"

"I am officially a believer in the ancient Chinese healing practice! AB Acupuncture is great. Annalisa is a gifted healer! She helped me heal from De Quervain's tenosynovitis (tendinitis of the wrist) and also lower back pain. She is thorough, gentle, efficient and super knowledgeable. The pain I was experiencing melted away and I am able to function again. I leave appointments feeling balanced and serene. Can't ask for anything more! Highly recommend!!"

"Annalisa is simply great! From the beginning of the process you know you’re in good hands. The preliminary consultation gives you an opportunity to discuss your health issues, what type of treatments she’ll be implementing, as well as any concerns you might have. Her thoroughness and attention to detail throughout the treatment ensures that she is treating the cause and not just the symptoms. I came to her for help with some upper back pain and shoulder mobility issues. To treat the causes she applied both orthopedic acupuncture and other modalities such as cupping and gua sha. After just 5 sessions my upper back pain was gone and my shoulder mobility had vastly improved. I highly recommend Annalisa to anyone who is looking for help with exercise/strength training related pain or to any athlete that wants to remain mobile and injury free."

"I came to acupuncture a skeptic - Annalisa defied expectations and has been a great help to me on multiple occasions.  As an active runner and crossfitter, soreness and lingering injuries are a constant struggle.  Specifically, I felt like my elbow pain was just something I would have to "deal with" for the foreseeable future - not so!  Annalisa was a great help.  I have gone back for general maintenance and always leave better off than I entered.  She is a great listener and is patient and warm.  I had no idea how much acupuncture could help (physically and mentally) - Annalisa is one of the best and I suggest everyone see her!"

“I've been going to Annalisa Brown for almost a year and she is wonderful. She really listens to your concerns and makes you feel comfortable and at ease. She has a gentle touch with the needles which is great for anyone scared of them and such a warm personality that I forget all about them and usually fall asleep! I've been going to her with allergy and sinus issues and I have definitely seen improvement since I started going to her!”

"Annalisa is magical! Not only is she a wealth of knowledge and expertise, she is kind, thoughtful and attentive to all my ailments. It was my first foray into the world of acupuncture and she gently guided me through the process with exceptional results. Under her capable care, after six sessions, she cured me of a very deep stubborn hip pain. She was persistent and unwavering, as she patiently pinpointed the pain and miraculously, the intense discomfort evaporated.  After meeting with numerous doctors who were unable to help me, to be free of pain felt revitalizing (both physically & mentally) and I'm incredibly grateful to Annalisa. I'm very fortunate to be under her calm care and supportive nature, as she's been treating me for other medical issues. With her determined resolve, it's advantageous to be one of her patients and I highly recommend Annalisa to anyone who is seeking relief from pain and suffering. The treatment she administers is incredibly effective and invaluable. Not only is she an outstanding acupuncturist, she is also flexible and helpful regarding the complexities of health insurance, which is appreciated. She's an outstanding provider in her field and impressive in her passion to help others and I'm immensely thankful."
