Why Get Acupuncture? Turn on the sound to find out!
What do you want for yourself and for your life? Are small things- pain, sleeplessness, digestive issues keeping you from living life the way you want to? Do you have a health problem that isn't a major disease and perhaps has been dismissed by your doctor as a part of aging that you'll just learn to live with? Acupuncture and East Asian medicine have been developing for more than 2,000 years as a way addresses those issues and maintain good health. This holistic style of medicine is focused on maintaining your natural healthy state rather than reacting to illness, because doing so now, prevents bigger illness later.
I know you're wondering: Does acupuncture really work? Yes! Acupuncture works by diminishing inflammation in the body, regulating the central nervous system, reducing stress, and improving circulation. Applying these benefits to different areas of the body facilitates healing and promotes wellness.
East Asian medicine teaches us to analyze and study all aspects of a patient's life when helping him/her on the road to health. You are the sum of all your experiences; acupuncture can help you chart your own unique path to health. Owner, Acupuncturist, Clinical Director
Annalisa Brown, L.Ac
Before pursuing Chinese medicine, I worked in the financial industry as well as non profit arts management. I’d been patient of acupuncture for over 20 years when one day lying on the table, I realized I wanted to share this gift with everyone. This medicine helped me understand my body in a whole new way. This lead me to study at the Pacific College of Health & Science, the largest school of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine in the country. Because there is always more to learn and many masters to learn from, I continued to study orthopedic acupuncture techniques for chronic and acute pain with some of the top practitioners in the field; studied stroke rehabilitation techniques and am certified by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Oncology Acupuncture. I even advanced my practice of Japanese acupuncture at Meiji University of Integrative Medicine in Kyoto, Japan.I have enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer my time for various organizations, notably the Bumi Sehat Foundation International, a non-profit, village-based birthing and community health clinic in Bali, Indonesia, for staff of the Hospital for Joint Diseases, Lenox Hill Hospitals and runners in the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers event.Because I get asked (often) what our education is like: I have has a Master of Science in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Health & Science, the largest school of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the US with campuses in New York, Chicago and San Diego. It was an intensive 4 year program of study combining both eastern and western medical coursework and included more than 3,000 hours of clinical experience seeing patients. I am board certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and licensed in the state of New York. I am excited to have opened a multi disciplinary health and wellness space on the upper west side of Manhattan where I run my practice specializing in acute and chronic pain conditions with a special interest in immune health, anxiety, Lyme disease and related conditions.
I know how busy and hectic life can get in New York. We need to be operating at optimal efficiency just to navigate around town while picking up groceries for dinner, the dry cleaning, fitting in a workout all while calculating whether to cross the park at 66th or 79th depending on the time of day. I am excited to offer you a brief respite and powernap to recharge your batteries and melt away the pain. It changed my life and I think it can change yours too.
Ria Concepcion, L.Ac
Born in the Philippines, Ria moved to New York City as a teenager and has called it home ever since. The first thing people notice upon meeting Ria is how warm, caring, and present she is when they are with her. She is passionate about this medicine and all it is capable of and feels deeply fulfilled when she resolves a health issue for a patient. Her particular clinical interests are women’s health, emotional health, and pain management, while her earlier life experiences as a bartender, 10 years working in the tech and media industry, as well as training as a Muay Thai athlete for many years provide Ria a broad perspective of the health challenges one encounters in life.
Ria’s first encounter with acupuncture began when she had a debilitating back injury as a bartender. Seeking relief, she turned to acupuncture and was astonished by how immediately it alleviated her pain after just one treatment. Later, when multiple surgeries couldn’t resolve Ria’s stage 4 endometriosis diagnosis, she again turned to acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine to help her manage the chronic pain and other symptoms, finally finding a non-invasive approach that helped her manage her condition. No longer suffering from catastrophic health episodes was life-changing, and that’s when Ria realized that she wanted to help other people change their lives as well.
Ria received her Master of Science degree from Pacific College of Health & Science, and as someone who always seeks out more opportunities to learn, she did additional clinical rotations at a harm reduction center working with addiction and trauma patients, and at Kamwo Meridian Herbs, the largest and oldest herbal pharmacy on the East Coast providing acupuncture treatments and herbal consultations. Ria also engaged in a year-long mentorship program on women's health, studying the treatment of menstruation, fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, aging, and how diseases affect women differently.
Her deeply personal connection to this medicine inspires her to share its benefits with others. The combination of her work ethic, analytical mind, ability to get along and connect with all kinds of people, and intense training have made her an outstanding practitioner so we feel incredibly lucky to include her on the AB Acupuncture team!
Shaneka is the first person you meet when you contact AB Acupuncture and the first face you see when you walk through the door. We are grateful for that! She brings not only warmth, a smile and a cup of tea when needed to all our patients, she keeps us in line and the office running like clockwork. Prior to running our offiice, she ran the student clinic at Pacific College of Health & Science and worked for the Visitng Nurse Service of NY. She spends her off hours with her beautiful daughter Aspen and exploring the city with her. Fun fact, if you tell her your birthday, she'll tell you all about your astrological sign!
REVIEWS & FEEDBACK
Dr. Arthur Weisenseel, MD. Mt. Sinai Cardiologist
"Annalisa is the best! I went to her for a very specific physical ailment I had been dealing with, and she has been really thoughtful and collaborative in coming up with a treatment plan. I had little exposure to acupuncture prior to starting with her, and she set my mind at ease about the whole process. She even took the extra time to refer me to an herbalist colleague of hers who she thought could help as well.
Go see Annalisa...she's the cure for what ails you!"
"I am officially a believer in the ancient Chinese healing practice! AB Acupuncture is great. Annalisa is a gifted healer! She helped me heal from De Quervain's tenosynovitis (tendinitis of the wrist) and also lower back pain. She is thorough, gentle, efficient and super knowledgeable. The pain I was experiencing melted away and I am able to function again. I leave appointments feeling balanced and serene. Can't ask for anything more! Highly recommend!!"
"Ria is a gifted, caring acupuncturist with a very kind bedside manner. Over a 3 month period, I received Japanese style acupuncture weekly and during that time I saw major improvements in lower back pain, sinuses, hormonal balance, and general anxiety.
Ria has a sweet, intuitive nature and a calm demeanor. I always looked forward to being cared for by her and felt very confident in everything she did. I highly recommend Ria for acupuncture."
"Ria is an exceptionally skilled acupuncturist, not only because of her deep knowledge of Chinese medicine and treatments, but also because she patiently listened to my symptoms, answered any questions I had and was then able to tailor a treatment plan which provided me with the best possible outcome every session.
Ria not only considered my overall health but also treated my emotional health. My husband recently passed away and the trauma of his death caused deep emotional wounds. Her comprehensive, holistic approach to my treatment went a long way to bring my physical and emotional health into balance.
I wholeheartedly recommend Ria to anyone looking for an acupuncture practitioner who is highly skilled, kind, patient, and understand that each individual is unique. I felt very safe and confident in her treatment plans. Ria has made a significant impact on my overall well being."
"I love my acupuncture sessions with Ria. She is warm, caring, and has a calm and soothing presence. My symptoms have improved over time, and she answers all of my questions. She makes sure I'm comfortable during and after needling and has gone above and beyond to make sure I can get an appointment"
"Annalisa is magical! Not only is she a wealth of knowledge and expertise, she is kind, thoughtful and attentive to all my ailments. It was my first foray into the world of acupuncture and she gently guided me through the process with exceptional results. Under her capable care, after six sessions, she cured me of a very deep stubborn hip pain. She was persistent and unwavering, as she patiently pinpointed the pain and miraculously, the intense discomfort evaporated. After meeting with numerous doctors who were unable to help me, to be free of pain felt revitalizing (both physically & mentally) and I'm incredibly grateful to Annalisa. I'm very fortunate to be under her calm care and supportive nature, as she's been treating me for other medical issues. With her determined resolve, it's advantageous to be one of her patients and I highly recommend Annalisa to anyone who is seeking relief from pain and suffering. The treatment she administers is incredibly effective and invaluable. Not only is she an outstanding acupuncturist, she is also flexible and helpful regarding the complexities of health insurance, which is appreciated. She's an outstanding provider in her field and impressive in her passion to help others and I'm immensely thankful."
"Working with Ria has been truly wonderful! She has addressed many of my issues with digestion, sleep, and stress. Ria's extensive knowledge is evident and she takes the time to explain each step behind the process thoroughly. Her compassion and caring nature shine through as she dedicates time to listen and understand you. The genuine care and personalized approach Ria brings to each session makes the entire experience so positive. I highly recommend her!"
